“Is there fake chocolate in these?”
Don’t worry, Mom. The thought of fake chocolate makes me cringe. Rich, gooey, fudgey, brownies on the other hand, make my smile grow ten times larger.
There are many misconceptions about the word “vegan”. Understandably so. Something just has to be said: vegan doesn’t mean there’s tofu in it. It means there’s no products from our animal friends. Katie and Angela do a great job of displaying creative vegan recipes (many don’t include tofu!)
Personally, I don’t follow a vegan diet. Many of my recipes are vegetarian, but I also consume meat, fish and (very) small amounts of dairy.
I wanted to do some fun kitchen experimentation. A mouthwatering vegan brownie recipe is sure handy when you run out of eggs and you’ve got
PMS a chocolate craving that hits you like the wind in December.

Dark Chocolate. Coffee. Kahlua.
Loca, Moca. These cookies are crazy, alright.
They’re the kind of cookies where the chocolate slowly, smoothly, melts in your mouth when they’re fresh from the oven.
They’re the kind of cookies that take on a whole new, heavenly dimension when they’re dipped in milk.
And they’re the kind of cookies that tempt you even if you store them in the freezer. Cold, they crack in half like a chocolate bar and send an instant espresso hit to your tastebuds.
Try and have just one. I promise you won’t be able to.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret: cute cookies aren’t just for kids. They’re for adults too!
I’m going to let you in on another little secret: I don’t really consider myself an “adult”.
Maybe its because I got wayyy to excited about Joy The Baker’s recent post.
Maybe its because the other day at work I was feeling really silly and belted out the “HEAD, SHOULDERS, knees and toes, knees and toes!” song.
Or maybe its because I’m in life limbo- still living at home, still going to university, and not quite yet out “in the real world”. But I try my to make the most of limbo by travelling & other activites.
Anyway. Back to the cute cookies. Continue reading Sugar and Spice Cookies
I have a confession to make. I’ve never actually had strawberry shortcake. I guess that makes me a bit of a culinary fraud for coming up with a cookie recipe named after the cake I’ve never tried. But do you know what I have had? Those strawberry shortcake ice cream bars that you get from the ice-cream truck in the summer.
Okay, I know they’re not the same. This clear deprivation of strawberry shortcake in my life is probably why I had such a hard time naming these cookies. Here’s what I struggled between:
- Strawberry Shortcake Cookies (obviously)
- Strawberry Cheesecake Cookies.
It was a stumper, I tell ya.
Maybe I should also mention I had 400 pages of reading to procrastinate about.

Eat it. The fork told you to. And you know you want to.
I think I might have shocked a few of you with yesterday’s post. So today we’re heading back to basics with an easy dessert to prepare for the family. Every good Canadian probably has a recipe for apple crisp stored somewhere at the bottom of their recipe box, and its one my family always comes back to.
Mom’s recipe is classic- just 6 ingredients: apples, flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. All wholesome, melt-in-your-mouth ingredients.
Its simple enough for beginners, but beautiful enough to serve for a crowd. Its one-dish-delicious. Its one of those recipes that you can make over and over again, and it never gets old.

Are you staying in this Friday night? I can pretty much guarantee there will be nothing on TV. And I know you’ve been wandering around the house, thinking, “What should I do with these old bananas? I’m sick of banana bread! I bet Katy’s Kitchen has a fun idea!”
Yep. Knew it.
These melt-in-your-mouth cookies are deceiving at first. Sure, they look all cute and round in their little muffin liners, with their mini chocolate chips poking out. But then you bite into them and…..

Did that make your Monday morning just a little bit brighter?
I’ve only made a few posts so far on the blog, but somehow my green tea cookies seem to be the most memorable among my friends.
I love cooking healthy food, but its just that much more fun to see everyone’s smiling face when I show up to work with a container of treats.
These brownies are so decadent. So gooey. So chocolately. So perfect.
Give them a try.

These cookies came out of a craving for green tea.
I know what you’re thinking. Who craves green tea?
Me, obviously! I swear I get the strangest cravings sometimes. So into the kitchen I went, to do a little experimenting and turn a boring old shortbread cookie into something fantastic.
Nice and light, these cookies have the perfect mix of tang and sweet.
