Drink Your Energy: Almond Butter Green Smoothie

Nothing gives me a fresh burst of energy during the day quite like a green smoothie. So simple to throw together, they make getting your greens easy and delicious.

As the days get shorter and the first snowfall sets in, smoothies are definitely becoming less frequent around here. But I’m happy to gulp them down when I’m feeling low on energy, because there’s something about spinach that just perks me right up.

Here’s a fun fact I just learned about spinach. It can boost your eye health! Spinach contains lutein, which has antioxidant properties and might help prevent eye disease. I need to be able to make careful baking measurements when I’m older, so I’m going to stock up on spinach.

If you’re new to the green smoothie game, you’ll love this one. Almond butter adds a bit of protein and satiety, not to mention rich taste. Of course, everything goes better with a little sprinkle of cinnamon, and I had to hesitate not to throw in more than ½ a teaspoon. So adjust to taste, because if you’re not cinnamon-obsessed like me, ¼ teaspoon might be more your style.

  1. Love the sound of this smoothie Katy! With the almond butter and spinach … so good! I haven’t been making smoothies that much lately – I think it has to do with the cold weather! It’s so cold in our house in the mornings!

    1. I agree, I’ve definitely been having smoothies less for sure. You get brain freezes x 10 in the winter months. But sometimes I just can’t resist because they’re just so yummy. 🙂

  2. I make a “peanut butter and chocolate” (neither almond butter & cacao nibs) version that’s pretty similar but I like the idea of cinnamon.

Love the layout of the site. Anyone who lives in Winnipeg AND uses chai and Matcha in excess is good in my books. 🙂

  3. Hi Katy! What a beautiful post! And I completely agree…smoothies are so good especially during winter months! Helps the immune system so much! Thank you for sharing yet another delicious recipe with us! I hope you have a good end to your week!

    1. Thank you, Monet! 🙂 Whenever I drink smoothies I definitely feel like I’m drinking immune-boosters in a glass. Have a great week 🙂
